HI, I'm Chris. I publish small-size picture books called Gift Booklets. Gift Booklets are designed to be a fun, casual, low cost way for grandparents to stay in touch with their grandkids using regular U.S. mail. I write, illustrate, design, print, bind, package, fulfill orders, and provide customer support through this website.
Since 2015, I've completed more than sixty picture book publishing projects, mostly for clients. I sketch out my ideas with pencil and paper and use digital design tools to refine illustrations, create page layouts, and produce the final publishing files.
Throughout the design process, I print pages and assemble book mockups to provide a page-turn experience for a better sense of how ideas flow from page-to-page.
Using desktop printers to create book mockups has helped me the color print possibilities (and limitations) of plain paper printing. Out of this work, the idea emerged to use plain paper printing for pilot publishing projects and my growing collection of Gift Booklets.
Could this be a way to develop story ideas and address one of the biggest problems in publishing—how to help readers discover emerging writers, bookmakers, and new books? If so, I think that would be great! More.
